Selling software to companies often proves to be a lengthy process. Particularly, the security and compliance review takes a lot of time, even if customers have already decided on a product. Chas Ballew experienced these challenges firsthand during his time at Aptible, a hosting provider for healthcare companies he co-founded in 2013. There, he realized how tedious and time-consuming security audits are for providers, as customers repeatedly had to explain their practices. This realization motivated Ballew in 2021 to leave Aptible and found Conveyor. The company focuses on automating the security clearance process for customers. Shortly after Conveyor's founding, OpenAI presented ChatGPT, which opened up the opportunity for Conveyor to support its product with AI. Many companies are still skeptical about using AI software, but the idea of delegating monotonous tasks to AI resonated well at Conveyor. Conveyor became the first AI provider to be fully implemented in production environments at companies like Zendesk, Atlassian, and Qualtrics. Other customers include Workday, Netflix, and Zapier. With the ability to accurately and autonomously answer over 90% of security questions, Conveyor saves its clients valuable time and significantly speeds up the sales process. Building on this success, the startup is now expanding its offerings to include AI-supported automation for proposal creation, a crucial component of many sales processes. This aims to attract new customers outside the technology sector and pique the interest of investors. The introduction of new products enabled Conveyor to raise an additional $20 million in a Series B funding round led by SignalFire, supported by Oregon Venture Fund and Cervin Ventures. Despite the potential of AI automation, the company must ensure comprehensive security measures to protect customer data. In the competition to automate RFPs and security questions, Conveyor is not alone. Startups like Loopio, Responsive, and Rohirrim also offer solutions to this often-overlooked problem in sales teams.
