- Cyber incident led to significant delays at European airports.
- Check-in complications forced airlines to manual processes.
Travelers at major European airports such as Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin faced significant delays over the weekend after a "cyber-related incident," as Collins Aerospace described it, led to complications. As a manufacturer of technology for airline check-in counters, Collins Aerospace was affected, forcing airlines to switch to manual check-ins. According to data from Flightradar24, by Sunday morning at 11 AM, over 130 flights at Heathrow were delayed by at least 20 minutes, while 13 flights had to be canceled on Saturday. A post on Heathrow Airport's social media profile stated: "Efforts to resolve and recover from the system outage of Collins Aerospace on Friday, which affected check-in, are ongoing. We apologize to those who experienced delays, but thanks to collaboration with the airlines, most flights were still able to operate." Heathrow, along with the other affected airports, now advises travelers to arrive at least three hours before departure for long-haul flights and at least two hours prior for short-haul flights.
