Since reaching the 1 billion user mark in 2018, the membership has tripled, demonstrating the dynamic growth of this social network. The growth is largely driven by the features Direct Messages (DMs), Reels, and personalized recommendations, according to Adam Mosseri in a video statement on Instagram. Due to the success of these features, the platform will continue to focus on them and align the app even more closely with these areas in the coming months. Despite the success of these short video and recommendation elements, there are also users who express some frustration. They would prefer more content from people they already follow instead of unfamiliar recommendations. To address this, Instagram now plans to fine-tune the algorithms so that users can determine which topics interest them less and make corresponding adjustments. Additionally, the app's navigation area is to be revised, with the upload button replaced by more direct access to DMs. These changes come at a time when Meta continues to face legal challenges regarding its acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. Internal emails that have come to light in an ongoing process reveal how the rivalry between Facebook and Instagram within Meta has grown.
