Takeaways NEW

  • Microsoft conducts performance-based layoffs to increase efficiency.
  • The restructuring aims to strengthen growth areas such as the Azure cloud.
The technology giant Microsoft has confirmed that it is making smaller layoffs in various departments to maintain the high performance of its workforce. According to the company, these steps are entirely performance-based to ensure that all employees meet the high demands of the corporation. Although less than one percent of the 228,000 employees are affected by the current measures, the layoffs are part of a series of previous staff reductions at Microsoft. Already at the beginning of 2023, the company had given up office space and cut a total of around 10,000 jobs. In January 2024, the corporation had to cut 1,900 positions again as part of the $75.4 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, citing the elimination of redundancies in the gaming division. Despite these restructurings, Microsoft remains optimistic about growth areas, particularly in the Azure cloud division.
