The British artificial intelligence group Nscale has completed a remarkable funding round of $1.1 billion. Notable investors such as Norway's Aker ASA and the Finnish company Nokia participated with the aim of significantly advancing the expansion of data center infrastructure. Led by Aker, an investment company of Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Roekke, $285 million was invested in the form of cash and assets. As a result, Aker secured a 9.3 percent stake in Nscale, with future earn-out potential that could increase this stake to 12.2 percent. In a pioneering project, the American AI company OpenAI, together with Nscale and Aker, intends to build its first European data center in Norway's arctic city of Narvik. This strategic partnership underscores the ambitions of the involved companies in the region. Other significant investors such as Sandton Capital, Blue Owl Managed Funds, Dell, Fidelity Management & Research Company, G Squared, NVIDIA, Point72, and T.Capital also participated in the funding round. Aker also emphasized that the 50 percent stake in the Aker-Narvik joint venture could be converted into additional Nscale shares in the future, should they go public.
