Takeaways NEW
- The security feature puts Qualcomm in direct competition with Intel and offers companies location monitoring regardless of location.
- Qualcomm expands its presence in the PC market with new chips and a special security feature.
The chip manufacturer Qualcomm has introduced a series of new chips for PCs and mobile phones, including a groundbreaking security feature for business use. The San Diego-based company, known as one of the world's largest providers of mobile chips, is thus expanding its presence in the PC market, where it competes particularly against Apple. The focus is on the new laptop chip named Snapdragon X2 Elite, which is set to begin shipping next year. With the Guardian feature, Snapdragon X2 Elite is aimed at businesses, providing IT departments with the capability to securely communicate with even powered-down devices for updates or technical support. This brings Qualcomm into direct competition with Intel, which has offered similar functions for over a decade. However, Qualcomm combines these security features with its 5G modem chips, making location tracking of devices nearly independent of location wherever there is mobile reception. Ben Bajarin, CEO of Creative Strategies, highlights the uniqueness of this offering and sees it as a clear competitive advantage for corporate fleets.
