Technological Revolution: USA Invest Heavily in AI Infrastructure

The United States is experiencing a significant expansion of its AI infrastructure, driven by the extensive "Stargate" project, which was introduced at the beginning of the year with an investment volume of 500 billion USD. Among the key players in this endeavor are the renowned AI pioneer OpenAI, the cloud software provider Oracle, and the Japanese technology company Softbank. They are expanding their partnership to establish a total of five new AI data centers. According to the announcements, OpenAI and Oracle will focus on locations in Shackelford County in Texas and Doña Ana County in New Mexico, and an additional site in the Midwest, which has not yet been disclosed. In parallel, OpenAI and Softbank plan to build data centers in the emerging technology hotspot of Lordstown, Ohio, and in Milam County, Texas. The new facilities are expected to enable the companies to drastically increase computing power necessary to develop and operate advanced AI models. From the perspective of investors, this means a notable capital allocation and indicates the prospect of long-term demand for energy, hardware, and cloud infrastructure, driven by the growth of AI. OpenAI emphasizes that with the newly planned centers, in addition to their existing facility in Abilene, Texas, and the ongoing partnership with cloud computing provider CoreWeave, the Stargate project is already pursuing a clear strategy to realize the pledged sum of 500 billion USD and a capacity of 10 gigawatts by the end of 2025 - faster than planned. In an optimistic assessment, CEO Sam Altman emphasized that realizing the potential of artificial intelligence is only possible if the necessary computing power can be provided. He added that the companies involved in the Stargate project are making remarkable progress.
