TruSources launches new ID verification technology on the market

In the digital age, 'Know Your Customer' checks have become ubiquitous, often requiring the submission of a government-issued ID and a selfie to verify a user's identity when using websites or apps. More recently, stricter age verification laws in countries like the USA, UK, and Australia have given rise to a new industry of identity verification companies that grant access to specialized content. However, privacy advocates have long raised concerns about the risks of potential monetization or loss of sensitive information in data breaches. The new startup, TruSources, led by Sanjay Krishnamurthy, formerly of WhatsApp, promises an innovative solution. TruSources' technology conducts age and identity verifications directly on the user's device without personal data leaving the security of the smartphone. Their technical novelty will be presented at the upcoming TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. TruSources has developed an app that detects deepfakes and verifies a user's liveness within seconds. Their machine learning models recognize patterns indicative of fake identities and offer an alternative to traditional KYC methods without server uploads. TruSources' technology can be seamlessly integrated into existing apps and websites subject to legal age verification requirements and can also be embedded in operational single sign-on services. A QR code for real-world use, such as for age verification upon entering a bar, is also available. Krishnamurthy emphasizes that his technology helps companies comply with KYC regulations without collecting government-issued ID documents or requiring users to compromise their privacy. TruSources stands out as one of the few startups conducting identity checks without compromising privacy or security.
