Amazon struggles with global disruption – Alexa, Prime Video, and numerous services affected
The incident once again demonstrates how centralized the internet has become—and how vulnerable a connected world becomes when a single cloud giant stumbles.

A massive outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) caused problems on online platforms worldwide on Monday. Affected are, among others, Alexa, Prime Video, Venmo, Perplexity, Coinbase, Snapchat, Fortnite, Slack, and Zoom.
Cause is in Amazon's most important data center
We can confirm increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 region," Amazon said in an initial statement. This region in the US is considered one of the company's most important cloud centers – if it fails, it has worldwide effects.
Chain Reaction on the Net
The AI startup Perplexity stated on X that the service is currently unavailable because AWS is down. The news agency Associated Press also reported disruptions in the delivery of news. The outages thus affected not only entertainment platforms but also business-critical applications.
How dependent the world is on Amazon
AWS is the backbone of a large part of the modern internet – from small start-ups to global corporations. If Amazon's cloud subsidiary falters, a significant portion of the digital infrastructure suddenly comes to a halt.
