Bundestag votes today on new constitutional judges
Today, the Bundestag is deciding in a secret ballot on three judicial positions at the Federal Constitutional Court - whether the "traffic light" coalition will achieve the necessary two-thirds majority is uncertain.

Today, a key personnel decision is pending for Germany’s highest court: The Bundestag elects three new judges for the Federal Constitutional Court. Up for vote are Sigrid Emmenegger, Ann-Katrin Kaufhold, and Günter Spinner. The result is expected from 6:30 PM.
A two-thirds majority is needed for the election – a goal that the SPD, Greens, and Union currently cannot achieve without additional votes. Seven votes are missing mathematically, which is why the decision probably depends on the Left or AfD. While the Greens have announced they will vote unanimously for all three candidates, the Left Party intends to allow a free vote on the Union candidate Spinner.
The AfD rejects SPD candidate Kaufhold due to controversial positions from an earlier academic paper, but signaled approval for Emmenegger and Spinner. An initial election attempt had already failed in July - also due to internal Union criticism of an SPD candidate.
Result of today's vote is expected around 6:30 PM.
